HeadStart for Life’s School Readiness Programme offers intervention services for children and teens (3-16 years old), who are facing challenges in school.

Our daily 3-hour sessions provide a holistic and diversified approach to address all those with developmental delays, learning difficulties, or social communication issues.

Each child will receive an Individualised Education Plan (IEP), which is a tailor-made, 6-month intervention programme for your child. This consists of long and short term goals based on your individual child’s needs as determined by assessments in various domains.

Domains covered include Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Skills, Play Therapy, Literacy, Handwriting, Numeracy and Art. Sessions are implemented in individual, dyad or small groups.

Our experienced professionals, therapists, and teachers are committed to work with those in both mainstream and special education. We are not a typical school — we are all about your child to meet his or her needs!

The programme is a collaboration between our Speech-language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Play Therapists, and Special Education Teachers, as well as parents, school teachers, and other health professionals.

Who needs School Readiness Programme?

Children who are aged 4 years and above, who may: Our SRP programme targets children aged between 3-12 years who need additional support in the areas of speech, fine-motor, gross-motor, social skills, literacy, numeracy, handwriting and art. The goal of the programme is to prepare your child with the necessary skills to grow in school.



Our School Readiness Programme Approach

HeadStart for Life assesses the following areas and devise a plan that will suit your child’s needs:

    A. Behaviour Management and Social Skills Training
  • We believe that behaviour and socialisation skills are very crucial in the overall progress of your child. We set goals that teach the appropriate behaviours. These goals are integrated across all areas under the School Readiness Programme.
  • There are also separate sessions for Social Skills Training, whereby children of same level and sets of skills are paired up or grouped to work on skills that promote positive interaction with others, appropriate classroom behaviour, better ways to handle emotions, resolving conflicts, etc.

  • B. Literacy
  • Our Literacy sessions are aimed at teaching your child to view, listen, read, comprehend, evaluate, speak, and write effectively and systematically.
  • We teach essential sub-skills such as phonological awareness, phonics and decoding, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary, and use these sub-skills as a foundation for your kids to write coherently and think critically about their written words.

    C. Numeracy
  • Numeracy is a vital skill in everyone’s daily lives.
  • At our Numeracy sessions, your child will learn more about counting, quantifying, sorting, ordering, number bonds, time and measurement, number stories and problem solving. These number concepts are discovered through active learning and purposeful play.

  • D. Handwriting
  • Handwriting is a developmental process that depends on the integration of other skills such as cognitive, perceptual, and motor skills.
  • Our Handwriting sessions use a multi-sensory approach to work on your child’s perceptual motor skills in a fun and interactive way in order to optimise your child’s curiosity and joy of learning.

  • E. Art
  • Art has been included in our School Readiness Programme to promote the creative expressions of your child.
  • Art helps to explore another part of your child’s world, bringing out his or her imagination and creativity through various mediums.

  • F. Play Therapy
  • Play Therapy – and Therapeutic Play – is a well-established discipline based on a number of psychological theories. At our Therapeutic Play sessions, we create a safe, confidential, and caring environment that allows your child to play within safe boundaries. This process allows healing to occur on many levels.

  • G. Speech Therapy
  • Speech Therapy helps your child be a more effective communicator by facilitating speech production and language development. Read more here.
